Falkirk Burns House

Anybody have any information about Burns House. It doesn't exist anymore, but was demolished to make way for a canal or something. I can't find anything about it. Hoping someone out there does.

The one on the left is Burns Cottage in Alloway. It is well known as that and unlikely to be referred to as Burns House.

Karina, when do you think this Burns House might have been demolished? The Forth and Clyde Canal passes through Falkirk. Unfortunately I don't know the dates. All I know is that when the canal was built, it was demolished. It probably was around 1790. The Henderson family lived there, they married into the Callender family. Karina

This means that it must have been demolished to make way for the Forth and Clyde Canal, rather than the Union Canal or any later development. So the canal company must have acquired the property, which means that there will be some record in the Registers of Sasines. These are in the National Records of Scotland, and the Abridgments of Sasines have been partly digitised, so when the system isn't being temperamental (it throws a wobbly from time to time) it shouldn't be too hard to find it. However it would mean a visit to the Historical Search Room in Edinburgh. It might be worth dropping a line to Falkirk Archives, however. https://www.falkirk.gov.uk/services/sport-leisure-culture/heritage/archives.aspx - they are actually in Callander House, which is not far from the Union Canal. Also, this was during the lifetime of Robert Burns (1859-1796) so it cannot have anything to do with him, and references to Ellisland, Dumfries etc are totally irrelevant. Anne
