Creating a sub-group?
The members of the ANGUS Genealogy List are in favour of the list being included in the hierarchy as a sub-group of the Scotland-Genealogy group, but I do not know how to go about either creating a sub-group of Scotland-Genealogy, or moving my existing group into the hierarchy and changing the name to ANGUS@Scotland-Genealogy@groups.io. Will someone please be kind enough to tell me what I need to do?

I forgot to mention that if you visit https://scotland-genealogy.groups.io/g/Scots/messages and click on your own message, you can edit it. I don't know if that includes editing the subject line, but let's find out!

More subgroups?
I've seen posts here about Scottish counties and regions that we don't have subgroups for yet. If you are interested in creating such a subgroups, please either reply to my email to your Rootsweb list admin email address a few days ago or just write me directly: valorie.zimmerman@... and we'll get it set up. So far groups.io seems to be working well. We'll soon start removing all the posts without genealogy content. Remember that you can edit your posts if you visit https://scotland-genealogy.groups.io/g/Scots/messages and open the message you want to edit. All the best,

Yes, you have to go to your account and change. Go to the site, and get in On left side menu, there is "Subscription" see "Email Delivery". You have choices to choose. David Samuelsen

Re: Weekly digest [was Question about list]
Lindsay Graham
However, in my view, the weekly digest option is an
abomination unless you expect NEVER to respond to any messages on
the list. Unfortunately, many digest subscribers simply reply to
one of the messages in the digest without changing the subject
heading and without including prior emails on the same subject --
which makes it very difficult for readers to follow the
conversation thread. As someone else pointed out, having useful
and self-explanatory subject headings that directly relate to the
subject matter is very important for readers of the list and,
especially, for those looking up the list archives.

The admins of some lists with which I'm associated do not allow weekly digest subscriptions, and that's what I would do if I was an admin. It is so easy to skim through (or delete) individual messages. Lindsay Graham Canberra, Australia

Re: NICOLSON of Isle of Skye Scotland. Also ROSIE of Scotland.
Ian & Margaret Kelly
Hi Joan, I don’t have James or Effie in my family tree at all. There are some family trees on Ancestry for this couple but not much information in most of them. I notice in one family tree, put there by a Brent Knutson, it has James as dying before 1902 at PEI. It has James’ father as Walter Nicolson 1802-1851.
It has Effie’s parents as Angus Macleod & Flora Bethune.
One child is shown for James & Effie and she is Mary Jeanette Nicholson 1868-1921.
So I don’t know if any of this is of any help to you. Lots of stuff on Ancestry Family Trees can be incorrect also, I have found.
Cheers, Ian

I notice you have Nicholson and Macleod going to Canada. I have a James Nicholson b.1826 and a Effie Macleod b.1836 coming from Scotland to Canada. They settled on P.E.I. It had to be around the early 1860s because my ggrandmother was born in 1864 on P.E.I. and her oldest sister was also born there. It seems the Nicholsons and Mcleods married each other often. The only thing I don't have are the parents of either James or Effie. I just know that they married in Scotland and then went to Canada. Would you have anything on the couple.
-----Original Message----- Hi, I am researching my mother’s ancestors the NICOLSON family of Glenmore on the Isle of Skye. Parents are Murdoch NICOLSON & Mary MORRISON of Glenmore. They had five children as under, all born on Skye. Kenneth b. 1820 (no information) Allan b.1821 married Marion MACLEOD and emigrated to Canada 1862. Catharine b.1823 (no information) Archibald b.1828 married Margaret MACLEOD and stayed on Skye. Murdoch b.1834 married Marion MCINNES and emigrated to Australia 1858.
I am also interested in contacting anyone researching the ROSIE family of the Aberdeen/Ellon area. I have Margaret Macleod (Rita) Nicholson marrying George ROSIE in 1934.
Thank you, Ian Kelly, Queensland, Australia.

That has been true in the Rootsweb lists. The Groups.io digests are a bit different, and do allow you to answer either in email or one the web to *one* message, not the whole digest. There is an option for a plain text digest, which is probably the same as the one Mailman offered to us before. It depends on people's email setup whether or not quoting is automatic. If people reply on the web, copy/paste is necessary, which is rather annoying.
Not everyone wants to reply. I would never take that option away; I already read the GMF group for group admins via digest. Otherwise it would be overwhelming. I may end up doing the same for the main Scotland-Genealogy group; my interests are in some of the subgroups. Valorie

These are my husband John`s ancestors.
Mother`s family GARDNER Thomas married Elizabeth ALLEN in Manchester in 1839. He may be the one baptised at Port Glasgow in 1815 with parents David GARDNER & Helen WALLACE. Surname: Gardner (Gardiner)
Bob Gardner
Looking for info on my 3ggf, Adam Gardner (Gardiner), b. 14 Nov. 1746 in Scone, Perth, Scotland; emigrated in 1774 to NY: m. Helen Mitchell, moving subsequently to upstate NY, western PA., and finally OH. and was killed by Indians in 1801 when returning to PA to finalize business. Children: Priscilla, Elizabeth Joann, David Milton, John Adam, Sarah (Sally), and John M. I have confusion with his parents with info showing mother as (1) Elspet Martine and (2) Joanna Farrow. The latter sounds more reasonable what with daughter Joann, but any help nailing this down and further ancestral info on the line would be most appreciated. Bob Gardner
