Re: Weekly digest [was Question about list]

Lindsay Graham

However, in my view, the weekly digest option is an abomination unless you expect NEVER to respond to any messages on the list.  Unfortunately, many digest subscribers simply reply to one of the messages in the digest without changing the subject heading and without including prior emails on the same subject -- which makes it very difficult for readers to follow the conversation thread.  As someone else pointed out, having useful and self-explanatory subject headings that directly relate to the subject matter is very important for readers of the list and, especially, for those looking up the list archives.

The admins of some lists with which I'm associated do not allow weekly digest subscriptions, and that's what I would do if I was an admin.  It is so easy to skim through (or delete) individual messages.

More subgroups?

I've seen posts here about Scottish counties and regions that we don't have subgroups for yet. If you are interested in creating such a subgroups, please either reply to my email to your Rootsweb list admin email address a few days ago or just write me directly: valorie.zimmerman@... and we'll get it set up.

So far groups.io seems to be working well. We'll soon start removing all the posts without genealogy content. Remember that you can edit your posts if you visit https://scotland-genealogy.groups.io/g/Scots/messages and open the message you want to edit.

Creating a sub-group?

ANGUS and MORAY List Owner

The members of the ANGUS Genealogy List are in favour of the list being included in the hierarchy as a sub-group of the Scotland-Genealogy group, but I do not know how to go about either creating a sub-group of Scotland-Genealogy, or moving my existing group into the hierarchy and changing the name to ANGUS@Scotland-Genealogy@groups.io. Will someone please be kind enough to tell me what I need to do?

My McLeay family were in Breachachy Kilmorack in 1841. Ann Campbell, wife of Farquhar McLeay is on the 1841 census as crofters widow. One of the daughters married Simon Frazer of Beauly. The McLeay family remaining went to Tasmania on the Storm Cloud in 1855.
When did Farquhar McLeay die and where is he buried? Who were his parents?

I notice you have Nicholson and Macleod going to Canada. I have a James Nicholson b.1826 and a Effie Macleod b.1836 coming from Scotland to Canada. They settled on P.E.I. It had to be around the early 1860s because my ggrandmother was born in 1864 on P.E.I. and her oldest sister was also born there. It seems the Nicholsons and Mcleods married each other often. The only thing I don't have are the parents of either James or Effie. I just know that they married in Scotland and then went to Canada. Would you have anything on the couple.

Hi,
I am researching my mother’s ancestors the NICOLSON family of Glenmore on the Isle of Skye.
Parents are Murdoch NICOLSON & Mary MORRISON of Glenmore.
They had five children as under, all born on Skye.
Kenneth b. 1820 (no information)
Allan b.1821 married Marion MACLEOD and emigrated to Canada 1862.
Catharine b.1823 (no information)
Archibald b.1828 married Margaret MACLEOD and stayed on Skye.
Murdoch b.1834 married Marion MCINNES and emigrated to Australia 1858.

I am also interested in contacting anyone researching the ROSIE family of the Aberdeen/Ellon area.  I have Margaret Macleod (Rita) Nicholson marrying George ROSIE in 1934.

Thank you,
