Re: Islay Searchers' List
I am not aware of a connection to these people although the lines probably cross somewhere. Interestingly though, my maternal grandmother was a McNabb whose people came to Oro County from Islay about 1830. It really is a small world . Best wishes as you search your family members. My Gr-grandfather was Archibald CURRIE who married Flora GALBRAITH on 7 March 1871 in Oro, Simcoe County, ONTARIO. The marriage reg says he was 30 [b~1841], born on Islay and his parents were James and Lizzie CURRIE. We have not been able to find any evidence of him in Scotland, or of his parents. The 1901 Ontario Census shows Archie’s immigration year as 1865. I have found an 1866 passenger list that includes A CURRIE age 25 single male arriving in Quebec in June – possibly him. I have two DNA Matches 117cm and 125cM, who are cousins known to one another. I have found their gr-gr-grandmother Mary CURRIE. On her 1860 Ontario marriage reg to John POLLOCK it shows she was born 1841 on Islay, and her parents are shown as James CURRIE and Eliza LYNCH. The 1901 Tosorontio, Simcoe County, Ontario census gives Mary's immigration year as 1847 when she was only ~6 yrs old. I can’t find James CURRIE or Eliza LYNCH on Scotland’s People. This Mary CURRIE, it says, was born about 1841 on Islay, as was my Archibald CURRIE. They could have the same parents. Somehow I, and some cousins, have a DNA connection to the two Matches mentioned above.
Our brick wall.
We sure would be pleased to hear of any clues that you might have to further this search.

I wonder which Currie branch you are following. My grandfather was John Currie born in Duich Lots in 1878. He married Flora McDiarmid born in Bowmore in 1883. John emigrated to Canada in 1902. Flora emigrated in 1910. They were married shortly after her arrival. John’s father was Donald Currie and his mother was Catherine McFadyen. Glynn Currie

You don't want anything to do with Rootsweb!
There is a Files folder right here in Islay@Scotland-Genealogy groups.io All we need is to create a Google Docs spreadsheet with the same columns as the old Excel file, and allow people to enter their own information. Russ

There is a spot for storing databases. Perhaps someone who is good with excel could create a new spreadsheet and everyone could enter their own name, e-mail and research interests on that sheet. It would then be available to everyone and no one would have to take on the huge task of creating a list of everyone

Re: email address change please
Iain, that's an idea. If the owner of the group has it set to allow folks to edit the wiki pages, someone could start one and people could add and update themselves right in the group. Login to https://scotland-genealogy.groups.io/g/Islay (no password needed; a login link can be mailed to you) and scroll to the bottom to see the Wiki. As far as I can tell, there is just one page so far, with some links on it. It looks like only moderators can edit, but that can be changed, or someone can volunteer to become a moderator and take charge of this task. Write to Islay+owner@Scotland-Genealogy.groups.io with your thoughts. Valorie

Each person needs to change their email or other information for themselves. Simply login to our group https://scotland-genealogy.groups.io/g/Scots (no password necessary; you can be sent a link) and click on your name in the upper-right-hand corner. There you can set all kinds of things, including what you want your follow group-members to know about you, and what email you want your email to be sent to.
Group owners and moderators can not do this for you.

Hello all
Yes, my email address on the spreadsheet is a very old one, but the one I sign in with here still works OK. It's hgriffin@... I am currently writing up the story of another branch of the family but hope to get back to the Islay story within a year. It will be good to connect then with old friends. Heather Griffin

Re: email address
I’m sure it will be of use to some of you, more so if updated. Unfortunately I will not have time to co-ordinate responses from those who want to be added or have their details changed on this spreadsheet. It was put together quite a number of years ago by Johan & mayself, but if anyone wants to take on the task, please feel free, and let us all know your contact details.
If you are still on this list Steve, is it still possible to have the updated list added to your Islay pages on Rootsweb to replace the original? If so could you respond to whoever takes the task on? Thanks.
Hope the New Year is an improvement on the last! Happy New Year, folks.
Kindest regards
