Charles:
Thank you so very much for the valuable information that you have provided to me. I will print it off and keep it for my personal reference. The details that Iain has submitted in response appears to be a closer match in regards to Colin Islay's birth details. At this beginning stage in my search I cannot afford to dismiss any of William Campbell's that had a son named Colin Islay. From your experience are there any Websites that you recommend where I may obtain any birth certificates, marriage certificates, or newspaper articles? I am willing to pay for such copies. Once again, thank you for your assistance.

A William Campbell, a minister boarding at Newton Cottage, Bowmore in 1881 was born in Dalavich on loch Fyne and is most likely the son on Donald Campbell and Catherine Bell. His birth was registered at Inverary on the 5th October 1852 which would make him age 28 as shown in the April 1881 Census. A William Campbell married a Jessie Sinclair in Wick in 1884 the same year Colin Islay Campbell was born in Bowmore. Regards Charles Houston ========== On 16-Oct-20 6:34 PM,

Minister William Campbell (1853-1893) for the Established Free Church of Scotland, Kildalton Parish
elizbethann@...
Minister William Campbell of Kildalton Parish was my great, great grandfather. The information that I have is as follows:
William Campbell (1853-1893) married Jessie Sinclair (1849-1888). Following her death he emigrated to Babinda, Queensland, Australia with their children Colin Islay Campbell (1886-29/12/1970) and Christina Campbell (1884) Colin Islay married Alison May Crocker. My grandfather was their eldest son Alexander "Sandy" Colin Campbell (1917-1969), Colin William, Ian 'Dooky" Donald, Heather Alison (1920 - 2008). Alexander Colin Campbell married first wife Krithia and had one son Alexander Campbell. With his second wife Betty Patricia Kelly (1930-2011) had Ian Alexander Campbell (1955), Bruce (1957), Julie Elizabeth, Patricia Alison. My father Ian Alexander married Rosemary Jane Diamond (1954). Daughters Elizbeth Ann (1973), Samantha Jane (1975), Rebecca Lyn (1978). I found a possible entry that William Campbell's parents were Donald Campbell (1795) and Mary McNiven (1821) and that Donald had a brother Malcom Campbell (1855). Any assistance on tracing Minister William Campbell's or his wife's parents will be truly appreciated. Elizbeth Ann Campbell

Sue, I hired Emma Maxwell to do some Scottish research for me a couple of years ago, involving records at the Archives that are stored off-site (unrelated to Islay). This was my only experience with hiring a researcher. She was very helpful and quite reasonable in cost.

Hi all
Yesterday I was getting ready to watch a webinar about Scottish Wills when I discovered there was a Scottish conference happening right then. I started watching and it was excellent and had to make the choice so didn’t see the other webinar. What is so great now is that you too can watch the whole presentation online – but just for a very short time!
If like us, your Thanksgiving (in Canada!) is without your family physically with you, here’s something to help chase the blues away.
Happy (different) Thanksgiving, Sue Visser

Re: Discover Scottish Land Records - on Youtube for 1 week only
Sue Visser
Thanks for the update Dixie.
We’re ok – could be better; could be worse. It would be thought that
a lot of Gen stuff would have been done in recent months but nada. Just as
the pandemic hit, we were packing, renovating, trying to sell our condo,
wondering what on earth we were going to do with everything closed. It was
a wild unfun rollercoaster ride that hasn’t ended quite yet.
In the midst of that, we ended up in quarantine for 2 weeks – we’d stopped
at our son’s to drop off Easter goodies and masks I’d made for Lisa (a PSW who
uses public transport). Everyone was great while we distanced chatted but
in the afternoon, Lisa took very ill very suddenly and as a consequence since
we’d been there the Health Dept said we had to quarantine too. It was ok
for us but the whole family there became ill, although the little ones were just
off colour for a couple of days and then bouncing off the walls with energy
because they couldn’t go outside. Dan and Lisa on the other hand were very
ill and each day when we video visited we were so worried about them – they
actually took turns sleeping so one would be semi conscious with the
Grands. Anyway they were in quarantine for 3 weeks. Fourteen
residents died in the facility where Lisa works = you’d think they’d be very
proactive to prevent such a thing from happening again but no lessons were
absorbed GRRRR. They even took away the sanitizer. Lisa works her
last day there Fri before moving to a hospital.
The rest of our gang is ok. Laura was fairly worn out trying to get
even some of those PPEs the PM and Ford kept saying there was lots of – she’s
CEO of PACE Independent Living in Toronto and has +200 care providers with equal
clients that needed masks, etc. I managed to track down some sanitizer for
her from a local distillery and, like Radar on Mash, Laura ended up calling
around ON trading each N95s she had that her staff didn’t need for 5 of the
masks they did need.
Chris and family are in TX – they’re ok too but no doubt you are aware of
circumstances south of the border. TX is one of the hot spots.
Originally they had planned to come here to pack and move us but then COVID hit
and we told them to stay home. We haven’t seen them for 1.5 years and it
could a long while before we see them yet. I wish they were still living
in NWT!!!
Well that’s it in a nutshell.
Take care. Keep well.
Sue

Just watching YouTube now from Australia. It is of interest to me as my GGG Grandfather Robert Cross, was a Factor on the Islay Estate (not sure what dates) and he also farmed at Ballymartin on Islay. He died in 1859. His father Alexander Cross was the owner of Alexander Cross & Sons, Seed Merchants Gallowgate.

With COVID19, the Islay Book Festival has morphed to an
online version. This morning (my apology for the late notice) Jim Hunter
will be speaking about his book about the story of Scotland’s forgotten potato
famine which ravaged island communities in 1846.
It starts in 2 hours (10AM Ontario time) - you can watch
it directly from our YouTube channel by following this link: https://youtu.be/91snrGTzJTE
