Interesting,
Maybe Donald Brown and my 3X great grandmother Mary Brown are related.  Do you happen to have taken a DNA test?  I have results on Ancestry and I also have trees there if you are interested

Hi

I am Anne (McNabb) Farrar. My ancestors from Islay were tenants in the Oa. Andrew and Catherine (McMath) McNabb were born in the 1770’s and married at Kildalton in February of 1802. In 1830 2 of their elder sons Andrew and Duncan arrived in Canada and in 1832 they took up land in Oro Township, Simcoe County Ontario. Over the next 20 years a total of 6 sons and a daughter all moved to Oro Township. Most of the children had married in Islay and some had several children when they arrived in Canada.

Surnames include McNabb, McMath (Matheson), McEachern, Morrison, Woodrow, McCuaig

My ancestor Lachlan McKinnon (1769-1824) a tenant on Kynagarry Farm married Isabella MacMillan (1759?-1861) in the daughter of Archibald MacMillan Of Tockmal, Oa in the Parish of Kildalton.   If you would like to see it I’d be happy to send you all that I know of both of them and a few photos of the remains of Tockmal taken in 2010.  I also have a photo of Lachlan’s gravestone in the grounds of the old Kilmeny church.  So I don’t push the size limit for images on this site I’m happy to send the information directly to your private email address.  My address is john.mckinnon@...

Roll Call - McMillans, MacNeills, MacDonalds, McNabbs of Kilarrow/ Bowmore

JandS O'Donnell

Hello All,

I haven’t been actively researching recently due to grandparenting duties, but my gg grandmother Ann/ Annie McMillan was from Bowmore, born around 1835/6. She married a John McPhail in Glasgow, but after 9 years of marriage and no children , he died in 1871. Less than 2 years later she gave birth to my g grandmother Mary Fraser McMillan, who was always known as Mary McPhail. I have no way of knowing who her father was. I have attached Mary’s photo, with her children, including my grandmother.
I have also attached the family tree , in case it is of any interest, showing Mary’s ancestors in Islay. ( The blue boxes show marriage dates. )  Although I researched the McPhail side they are really not connected to my family.

The main families I’m researching therefore are McMillans, MacNeills, MacDonalds and McNabbs - all of Kilarrow in late 18thC.

Hi Diane/All,

Hello and best wishes to everyone!

My interest is with McFadyen, McGilvary, Morrison, McEwan - I believe mainly from Bowmore

My great grandparents are: -

Hugh McFadyen: B 1835 - D 1907 / Elizabeth Morrison - (photo attached): B 1841 - D 1922. Both born in Bowmore but moved to Dumbarton and then Clydebank. Hugh's brother Donald was the Post Master at 'old' Bowmore Post Office, now a private residence and to the left of The Lochside Hotel on Shore Steet - 2 x photos attached

Hugh and Elizabeth had 8 children?: John, Catherine, Euphemia, Flora (my grandmother), Elizabeth, Mary Anne, Margaret, Angus - oldest, B 1862 - D 1929

Hugh's parents were: Angus McFadyen and Anne McGilvary / Elizabeth's parents were: John Morrison: B 1791? - Dead at 1851 and Margaret (or Anne) McEwan: B 1801

Note: Many of the above dates are from 'scribbles' and need to be verified

Thank-you to everyone involved in getting this up and running - I will follow with interest

Charles, I was born in Toronto in 07/01/1932, father Donald, born in Port Ellen 1892.  I remember two trips North to Lornesville to visit Dad's two relations Sarah and her batchelor brother who's name escapes me.   One visit was memorable as Dad ran over a skunk!!!   I remember playing with the water pump and a big pumpkin.   After we returned to Glasgow at the end of 1936, Sarah sent me comic sections of Canadian papers which I enjoyed.
I wish to find out where they are  connected to my family tree

Thank you so much Sue.  I corresponded with Robert for a short timebefore he went into the nursing home.  He was steeped in Keith family history.  So many of them made the journey to Canada......I suspect that my 2X great grandmother just could not face making the journey and most of her family remained with her here in Scotland.  I am so pleased to get the attachments from you.
