Re: Archibald Cameron Ann Mceachern Kilchoman Islay.
Hi Seymour. I can see the families you mention. As you said our match with dna is small so possible gens back. My maternal line are MacDougall(McLullich) and McPhail who were in in MULL late 1700s but of course they moved around.

Lagrevege and Inverloskane

The 1686 Tenants List for Islay has a reference to "Lagrevege and Inverloskane". Has anyone come across such a place (or places)? Would love to know the location. Any assistance much appreciated! Isabel

Larrachaluil, the Oa (spelling?)
isabel vaughan
Interested in "Larrachaluil" (spelling uncertain). Located in the Oa, midway between Lurabus and Ballichatrigan. Found it mapped in Bartholemew's 1895 Atlas. Wonder whether anyone may know of this location, and whether anything remains of tenant dwellings or other. If anyone knows of or has visited this location, would love to hear from you! Isabel

Islay plaque"
Just wondering if anyone else has a little Islay plaque like this one.
At its widest, about 3 1/2 inches; 4 1/2 inches long. Painted on thin laminated? wood. No initials or signature. On the back is a hook and a tag - in my grandmother's hand - "Islay Island". Found with old photos...after my grandmother was gone. I know neither she nor my mum ever went to Islay in Scotland - and Mum not to Islay in Ontario, or even Alberta. However, one of my great aunts did work in the hospital in Islay, Alberta for a while. It just occurred to me - perhaps it had been hers? Some kind of souvenir? Although she wasn't from the Islay Scotland side of the family. (Wish I could ask!) Diane

Roll Call - McDougall
jemooney@...
Hi Folks - Thank you for welcoming me into your group. My Great Grandfather was Duncan McDougall B April 1837 in Port Ellen, Islay. Died in Nelson, BC in 1907. His father was also Duncan McDougall. My great grandfather was a Presbyterian Minister on Islay (I visited the Islay church in 1986). Many of his children emigrated to Canada (primarily BC) - I have a lot of information about my Great Grandfather Duncan's descendants but very little about his ancestors. DNA evidence provided links to other McDougall branches in Southern US and Ontario but I have little documentation as to how we are connected.

Paul, I have not been able to pin down your Duncan in the Scottish census records, are you able to tell me where he was in the 1851 census. I have noticed a (farm) called Kilchiaran close to Kilchoman. In the 1811 Tenants list there is a Duncan McLellan at Kilchiaran, phonetically this sounds like the placename in your email of 29th January. I am not making any progress with my family, so any snippet might help me link up with any other snippet, one never knows. Mike

This is the start of my Islay line. I have information on the next generation or two in most cases but would like to know if there are any current members. Mr. Houston has been most helpful, especialy with the Fergusons. The Campbell connection is still
unknown.

Hi, In my efforts to find connections to my McAulay's, of Portnahaven, I have tried to locate all Islay McAulays. I have Robert McKenzie & Margaret McAulay having a son, Donald, on 21/2/1823 in Kilchoman. Would you have any info on Margaret's parents, or whether Robert/Margaret left Islay? Regards Mike

_Hi Hi Paul, I use Scotland's People a lot, but Duncan does not show up on the 1851 Census. I have sent a query into Scotland People. Ideally finding Duncan's death record could give us his parents and the possible connection. Apologies as you probably have this already, I have found an Angus McAulay 26 (plasterer born Edinburgh) & Catherine McAulay 22 (Power Loom Weaver born Eastwood Renfrew) at 6 Catherine Street in the Parish of Calton (Glasgow) in the 1851 Census, but no children Regards Mike

Re: McAulays
Paul MacAuley
Hi Mike,
Just out of curiosity, where are you located. I live in the state of Idaho, USA. (Not that it makes any difference.) I could not find Duncan in the 1851 census either. I mentioned this to a friend I had made in Scotland through the research I was doing
and he provided me with what I sent to you. I got the information from Ancestry. I don't know why it's not on ScotlandsPeople.
I still haven't figured out what happened to Duncan. I'm assuming that he emigrated somewhere, maybe Australia or New Zealand. If he stayed in Scotland there should be some record. I haven't found any records about Duncan beyond the 1861 census and it doesn't
make sense.
If I find anything, I'll let you know
Paul

Re: McAulays

Hi Paul, I left Greenock Scotland in 1962 now reside in Kent England. My son lives in Syracue Utah, so I have been to Idaho a couple of times. I tried all the names you gave with Duncan but got nil returns, although I believe I found Angus and his wife. I have always taken Scotland's People as the authoratitive source of all official scottish records, it will be interested in seeing their response to my query. If you have something on Duncan around 1861 that is good news. Prior to 1855 death records are few and far between. In the 1851 info you sent Duncan is shown as 60, so at 1861 he would be 70ish, at that age I would have thought he was too old to undertake long voyages I'll keep you posted. Mike
