Muting topics
Hi folks, we are in a subgroup, so each of us is subscribed to the main group, Scotland Genealogy and Family History: Scots@Scotland-Genealogy.groups.io.
You can't leave that group without leaving this one too. But if you aren't interested in some or all of the topics discussed there, you can mute topics and later un-mute them if you like.
More information about that here: https://groups.io/g/GroupManagersForum/wiki/Managing-Muted-and-Followed-Topics Valorie

Welcome All to the new Islay list!
Welcome to our new list, everyone. I noticed some of you came 'early' to get good seats :-) I appreciate that. As a few know already, I like to learn something new every day, so bear with me as I learn more about managing the list here. Invitations are out now; if you came early you might get one anyway. Thank you Diane for all the organizing you are doing to keep the list going. Have I interpreted this correctly - that photos will be allowed with this site?

Roll Call ?
Hi, everyone. There are now 177 of us here. Would you like to start a roll call? Just the Islay people's names and places you are interested in. I am thinking we can also build up a database for the people we are researching. We can post images too - however - there is an overall size limit for images on free lists here. So be cautious and resize them, please. I would love to see photos of those we know came from Islay, if we have them. Diane

J LOCHRIDGE
Hello, I am Johan Lochridge, been interested in my Islay ancestors for many years and my names are Keith, Campbell, Brown, Sinclair, and Stevenson, Dunlop the latter two moved to Islay in mid 1800s. I have taken a DNA test and my results can be matched on Gedmatch where my No is A768704. I have trees on Ancestry. I hope this is helpful Regards Johan

Re: Roll Call ?
John Kemplen
Hi all, Happy to share my info in case a roll call is set up. Names of interest are McKellar, Campbell, McLugash, McArthur. People moved around a lot; places include Kilbrannan (near Daill), Torrabus, Tighnaspeur (a.k.a. Sky House, in Kildalton parish but nowhere near anywhere), Ardilistry, Cnocrhaonisdale, Trudernish, Proaig, Ayen, Kilchiaran and, most recently, Auchnaclach between Keills and Ballygrant. Ancestors of both grandmother and grandfather moved to Islay (separately) in the 1840s, when many people were moving out. Regards John

My complicated Islay family
Goodness knows how to put photos on the links, however here are my great grandparents Donald Gillies and Ann McKewan (brewer at Laphroaig) The Carson children of Catherine Ann Gillies, who married William Carson, photographed on the last photo, with her sister Margaret Gilles who was the mother of Alaistair Woodrow who partnered with his cousin, May Carson, my grandmother. Bit twisted. Margaret, my great grandmother was also my great aunt, and went to Canada.
