Re: Gilchrists on the Oa/Cragabus areas
Hi Steffenie,
I’ve been lurking for years, occasionally browsing messages that looked like they may have some helpful info, but alas, not much has come along to get me any further back than 1765.

Hi Anne,
Sadly I have very little on this marriage.
Here’s what I do know:
Margaret was born on Islay, 7-20-1831 to William & Sarah (nee McCuaig)
The entire family came to Simcoe

Valorie,
I know all the words below, but can’t understand anything that was said.
My DNA was tested 15 years ago by FamilyTreeDNA and, in spite of frequent messages from them that they’ve found

The learning curve is not so steep, and if you tested at Ancestry you already have over half the matches possible, since their database is larger than the rest, combined.
Start with what you already

Hi Steve, Do you have further details of this marriage? dates, location. I am trying to trace the wife of John McNabb b 1816 at Ballychatrigan or Lurabus. There were numerous McNabbs on both farms. I

Re: Gilchrists on the Oa/Cragabus areas
Have seen McAffer before as an alternate spelling of MacArthur. Certainly the Gilchrists and MacArthurs from Islay who emigrated to Eldon County in Ontario and later to Saskatchewan were related.

I'm going to have to watch this thread as I too have been researching the McArthurs of the Argyle Patent, trying to find a link to a dead end in my tree. What I can confirm is James Law McArthur b.

Btw Annette, not that your research reaches to America, but Neil McArthur and Mary Campbell on that boat sailed with their children Alexander, John, and Christine, who is my 6th great grandmother.
