Judy,
I have done a lot of research on the Argyle Patent, mostly the first trip in 1738. There were three in total, ‘39 and ‘40. They landed up upstate NY and moved about the area. My group ended up in Claverack and Kinderhook. Let me know if you need some resources about this.

I also have family living on the Argyle patent: the McDougalls and the Walkers, but I can't find where the Walkers come from. Duncan McDougall and his wife, Janet Calder, came to the Argyle Patent in 1739. Lists of the Argyle settlers show he arrived in 1739 with wife Janet Calder, and children John, Alexander, Ronald, Dugald, and Margaret. He is still listed with 5 children in 1764.
I have not been able to find information about Janet Calder's parents, and have found very little about where the McDougall family came from exactly.
The Walkers are a complete mystery. I assume that they are Scottish. John Alexander Walker was born 17 Sep 1825 in East Greenwich, abutting Argyle, NY. His parents were Daniel Walker (03 Nov 1790-07 Nov 1841; birthplace and parents unknown) and Jane McDougall (16 May 1795-25 Apr 1838) whose parents were John McDougall (04 Apr 1753-08 Apr 1813, son of Alexander and Catherine McDonnel) and Elizabeth Beatty (28 May 1757-11 Apr 1820, daughter of Capt. James Beatty (Rev. army) and Huguenot, Catherine DeGersey/Jersey (another mystery person).
Any information about any of these people would be greatly appreciated, especially where the McDougalls and Walkers came from exactly. Were there Walkers in Islay?
Judy No, my people sailed to New York from Islay with Captain Campbell in 1738 on the Argyle Patent. Names were Neal McArthur, Mary Campbell and their children, John, Charles, and Christine. I’m sure they left family behind in Islay, but without more details on them pre-1738, I don’t know how to identity other family. Once they land in America, I can trace their movements fairly easily, all the way to Canada after the Revolutionary War, and up to these current generations of myself and my son.
